The goal of this research master's program is to prepare students with in-depth theoretical and field knowledge about the nature of political and authoritarian structures and their associated social dimensions, as well as the interactive influences between them. Students will be exposed to key scientific perspectives that address the legitimacy of authority, the social and historical foundations of modern and ancient states, social conflicts for power, centers of influence and pressure, the formation of political systems and social functions, challenges of democracy in both modern Western and third-world experiences. Additionally, it covers the dilemmas of state and nation in Lebanon and the Arab world, and the relationship between power, knowledge, and society in these contexts. The program also includes studying political parties and their trajectories in Lebanon and the Arab world, as well as the reading and analysis of election results and opinion polls.
